Town Administrator Submits Resignation, Transition Planning Underway
Posted on Thursday February 22, 2018
Atoka Town Administrator Brian Koral submitted his letter of resignation to Mayor W. Daryl Walker and the Atoka Board of Aldermen on February 21. The resignation comes a day after the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Riverside, Missouri approved a contract making Koral the next City Administrator of Riverside. Koral submitted his resignation and forty-five (45) day notice in accordance with the terms of his contract with the Town.

Koral, who started with the Town of Atoka in June 2011, will continue working with the Town's leadership team to ensure a smooth transition.  His last day at Atoka Town Hall will be April 13.

During Koral's tenure, the Town has expanded its focus on providing exceptional municipal services while maintaining one of the lowest municipal property tax rates in the region.  Major initiatives including the launch of the Atoka Parks & Recreation and Fire Departments and the construction of the new Atoka Municipal Complex have been coupled with everyday improvements like an aggressive road resurfacing program and park upgrades including the Walker Park Splash Pad, Greenway Trail – Phase I and the Nancy Lane Park Playground to support the quality of life Atokans have come to expect.  The Town has also introduced residential trash collection, curbside recycling, online bill and tax payments, the AtokaConnect mobile app and an expanded web and social media presence – furthering a customer-focused approach to Atoka's municipal government.

The Town has already begun planning for the recruitment of the next Town Administrator.  Mayor Walker expects to establish a Search Committee that will begin meeting in the near future.   More formal plans for the transition period will be finalized at the March meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

In the coming weeks, the Town will post the position with the Tennessee Municipal League (TML), the Tennessee City Management Association (TCMA), the International City Management Association (ICMA) and other professional organizations.  Minimum qualifications for the position will likely include a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration with a Master’s degree preference and five (5) years of progressively responsible municipal experience.

The Town expects to set an application deadline in mid-April with interviews continuing through May.
