Atoka Presents FY2013 Property Tax Breakdown
Posted on Tuesday October 09, 2012
Continuing its commitment to open and transparent government, the Town of Atoka has prepared an infographic detailing how property tax revenue received by the Town is spent.
Property tax bills for 2012 were recently mailed to property owners in Atoka.  With the second-lowest second-to-lowest property tax rate amongst municipalities within the Tipton or Shelby counties, the Town of Atoka takes pride in providing high quality, responsive municipal services while maintaining low and stable property tax rates for the community.

In adopting the FY2013 Town budget, the general fund departments and functions were allocated the following percentage of the overall fund expenditures:
  • Police - 36%
  • Streets - 27%
  • Administration & Finance - 15%
  • Fire - 10%
  • Parks & Recreation - 9%
  • Code Enforcement & Planning - 2%
  • Grants & Donations - 1%
An infographic representing the breakdown of a property tax dollar has been developed to represent how each dollar of property tax received by the Town is spent.  Literally down to the penny, residents have the opportunity to see where Town money is spent.

Funds spent operating the Town's water and wastewater system are not included in the graphic since those services are funded by user fees, not property taxes.

The Mayor, Aldermen and staff are constantly evaluating Town programs to ensure maximum value to Town customers and efficiency in operations.

A copy of the Town's FY2013 budget is available here.
