Facility Improvements Now Underway at Nancy Lane Park
Posted on Tuesday January 28, 2014
The Town of Atoka began construction on a new 5,600 square foot playground at Nancy Lane Park yesterday. When complete, the new playground will be the largest in the Atoka park system - offering an exciting new recreational opportunity in the heart of Atoka.
The Town of Atoka has launched a series of improvements at Nancy Lane Park designed to increase the use and quality of the park. The projects planned for 2014 will enhance the recreational offerings available while making Nancy Lane Park an even more inviting space for outdoor activities, special events and community gatherings.

In 2012, the Town was awarded a Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF) grant administered by the State of Tennessee's Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) to help fund the installation of a playground at Nancy Lane Park. The playground will be a new recreational offering at the park – designed to complement the existing softball complex, walking trails and disc golf course – and will feature 5,600 square feet of play surface, six slides, a raft swing, sea-saw, climbing features and much more. The playground will be installed behind the existing restroom facility near softball field 2 – providing easy access to the parking lot for park guests.

When complete, the Nancy Lane Park playground will be the largest playground in the Atoka park system and will be an exciting new offering in support of our active, vibrant community.

Additionally, the Town recently awarded a contract for the installation of new field lighting for the softball complex at the park. The new Musco lighting system will enhance nighttime play on the softball fields while significantly reducing the number of light poles, eliminating overhead wiring between the lighting structures and automating the control of the system to reduce operational costs. The system is also designed to minimize the amount of light that impacts neighboring properties so even though the fields will be brighter, the light impact on park neighbors should be reduced.

"The Town is excited as we continue to improve Nancy Lane Park," said Parks & Recreation Director Brian Peel. "Building on its long history as an outstanding recreational facility in south Tipton County, Nancy Lane Park will be a central gathering place for years to come."
