Atoka Water Rates and Service Fees Increasing in July
Posted on Wednesday June 28, 2017
In response to increased wholesale water costs incurred over the past several years, the Town of Atoka is increasing water rates and select service fees. The rate increase, the first water rate increase in more than seven years, will increase the average water bill by $1.72.

In adopting the fiscal year 2018 Town budget, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a ten (10) percent increase to the Town's customer water rates. The water rate, unchanged in since 2010, has increased to $3.85 per 1,000 gallons of water. The new rates will be effective with the bills issued in July.

Additionally, the Town is increasing activation fees by $10 for all new accounts.

"The Town has a responsibility to operate the water system in a fiscally sound way," said Town Administrator Brian Koral. "Since our system purchases water and wholesale prices have increased by more than fifteen (15) percent since 2010, those increased costs have to be passed on. We have held rates steady for as long as we can but the increased cost we are seeing from our wholesalers has forced our hand.  Our team has gone to great lengths to minimize the impact on our customers by improving efficiency to reduce operating costs - and that is something we will continue to do going forward."

The average residential water account used 4,900 gallons of water per month in the first five months of 2017. The increased rates will add $1.72 per month to the average residential water account.

Sewer rates remain unchanged. For a full listing of the new water rates and fees, view the rate schedule.
